Threads On My Art Vol. I is a compilation album of Kid Lightbulbs covers by a diverse collection of indie musicians. Includes the SuperScience cover of “lashing out!!!!!!”.
A short time ago an interesting post by Brandon Lucas Green aka Kid Lightbulbs on Threads caught my attention. He was organizing a compilation album of Kid Lightbulbs covers by indie artists. The connecting thread being that all the artists had connected via Threads. (Is that a pun? Wordplay? Regardless, it was intentional and I’m not sorry.) After taking a listen through a couple of his albums, I was in.
That album, appropriately titled Threads On My Art Vol. I, is available on Bandcamp now! As Brandon states on the release page, all proceeds raised will benefit the World Central Kitchen and The Trevor Project.
The album features a ton of amazing indie artists and each cover is a truly interesting and unique take on the source material. It is an excellent and diverse collection of tracks. This also the first cover song I’ve released under the SuperScience title. After listening through the album (participants got a sneak peek) I can honestly say I’m proud to be a part of this compilation.
I opted to cover “lashing out!!!!!!” from Brandon’s THROW MYSELF INTO THE BAY album. The song jumped out to me immediately. Musically, like much of the Kid Lightbulbs discography, it has an experimental electronic side as well as a guitar-driven indie rock side and it bounces between the two effortlessly. The strong Nine Inch Nails influence was not lost on me. Lyrically it explores themes of bottled emotions, frustration, and anger from a distinctly male point of view in a vulnerably honest way. At least, that’s my interpretation of it. The raw honesty of it spoke to me.
My cover will be available to stream on most major outlets at a later date. I first want to channel as much attention as possible to the full album on Bandcamp, which is the best place to support this project.
